Across Wales Walk

We are delighted that Montgomery is now the fixed end point for the 46 mile Across Wales Walk run by Rotary Clubs of Newtown, Llanidloes and Machynlleth. This was the 60th Across Wales Walk and once again Montgomery gave a rousing welcome to the 312 tired walkers (some more than others) coming into town from, an amazing, midday onwards. £1 000 was raised for Severn Hospice by Rotary and individual walkers raised several thousands for their own chosen charities.

As is often the case, weather was wet and misty for the first few hours but was pretty hot as the day progressed and scorching in Montgomery. The atmosphere in Montgomery was enlivened by a band playing for a wedding in the Town Hall along with plenty of clapping and cheering.

Local lad and farmer Ifor Humphreys completed his 24th Across Wales Walk and was awarded a special certificate for his endeavours. Fran Louise of Montgomery Walkers are Welcome Committee completed the walk for the first time whilst another member, Brett Kibble, confined himself to the task of route marking and vegetation clearance for the final Abermule to Montgomery stretch of the walk.

Across Wales will run next year on Saturday June 22nd with booking opening early in the new year. Are you up for the challenge?

Walkers are certainly welcome in Montgomery.
