Welcome to our walking festival lineup for October 2022. We have four walks on offer for Saturday 1st October 2022 and three for Sunday 2nd October 2022. Please read the walk details below and book your desired walk entries using the booking form below.
Please note that all walks must be booked in advance.
There is no charge for any of the walks but do book early to reserve your place. If you need to cancel for any reason please let us know as we will hold a short ‘reserve’ list.
NOTE: We are sorry but dogs are not allowed on these walks as they pass through farmers fields, with some containing livestock.

SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER 2022 walks
Welcome back to our Montgomery Walking Festival 2022.
Note: All walks start from the Montgomery Car Park situated to the southern end of the town near to the recycling centre on Maldwyn Way.
CHALLENGE WALK
SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER
Start: 08.00 – 19 miles
Strenuous
A strenuous challenge due to the distance and the hills encountered. The walk crosses the Vale of Montgomery and Marrington Dingle to then climb to the tops of Corndon and Roundton. Crossing the Camlad valley it then explores some lovely valleys at the side of the Kerry Ridgeway before making for Montgomery via Town Hill. Superb views and intimate landscapes abound. No scrambling is involved.

BEACON HILL
Service bus to beginning of walk.
Exploring Beacon hill, Lonely church, Camlad river and Montgomery Vale
SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER
Start: 09.00 – 14 miles
Strenuous in parts
Catch the bus to Leighton and then walk up through the beautiful woods on the side of Long Mountain to the Iron Age hill fort at Beacon Ring. Descend via the ‘Lonely’ church to the Camlad river and valley and return to Montgomery via the Vale of Montgomery. This is a varied walk with the usual superb views and a mixture of topography.

ROLLING CEFN COED HILLS
SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER
Start: 10.00 – 9 miles
Some steep climbs but not strenuous
Explore the rolling hills west of Montgomery with superb views across the width of Wales. It is sheep country and the ‘old ways’ provide some excellent walking.

MONTGOMERY VALE 'BUS' WALK
Service bus to beginning of walk.
SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER
Start: 10.00 – 4 miles
Gentle walking on the flat.
Using the service bus means you don’t have to go round in a circle! The bus drops you off at the far side of the Vale for a lovely flat walk back to Montgomery. A walk along a very atmospheric quiet country lane is followed by field paths with great views.

SUNDAY 2nd OCTOBER walks

SEVERN VALLEY
Cross the Severn Valley and visit Dolforwyn castle
SUNDAY 2nd OCTOBER
Start: 10.00 14 miles
Relatively strenuous
Relatively strenuous because of the length and some steep sections.
Cross the Severn valley to access the hills on the ‘other’ side . Visit the Welsh castle of Dolforwyn built to ‘shadow’ the English one at Montgomery. Return across the Montgomery Canal to the intimate hilly countryside around Llandyssil. Back to Montgomery via the Town Hill where the Dolforwyn castle can be seen in the distance.

EXPERIENCE MONTGOMERY VALE
SUNDAY 2nd OCTOBER
Start: 11.00 — 7 miles
Two gradual climbs and then easy walking
Leave Montgomery with a gradual climb up to Town Hill where you will look over Montgomery Vale. Then descend with a panorama over the Vale to Cordon Hill. The return is through the Vale with beautiful easy walking.
