Walkers are Welcome Montgomery are delighted to unveil their programme for Montgomery Walking Festival 2021 — October 2/3rd.
Leaders have totally reviewed and revised our walking programme for your well being.
All walks must be booked in advance and for this year there will be a maximum group size of 16. Leaders will be prepared to take health precautions at gates and stiles and non-family groups will be asked to observe any distancing restrictions current at the time.
There is no charge for any of the walks but do book early to reserve your place. If you need to cancel for any reason please let us know as we will hold a short ‘reserve’ list.
Offa’s Dyke Path Officer, Rob Dingle, and Tom Davies, local author of ‘A Welsh Wander’ will be joining the Saturday Lonely Church and Offa’s Dyke Path walk.
NOTE: We are sorry but dogs are not allowed on these walks as they pass through farmers fields, with some containing livestock.

CHALLENGE WALK
SATURDAY 2nd OCTOBER
Start: 08.00 – 18 miles

A very varied walk taking in the Vale of Montgomery, deeper valleys, some steepish climbs and moorland walking. There is no scrabbling involved but there is one steep descent that needs care. The views throughout are wonderful and the pace allows them to be appreciated.

‘Lonely Church’ and Offa’s Dyke
SATURDAY 2nd OCTOBER
Start: 10.00 – 13 miles

A five minute bus ride to Chirbury then walk through beautiful valleys across to Long Mountain where we climb to a very unusual isolated ‘black and white’ church. Then descend with great views to the Welsh hills in the west, returning to Montgomery along Offa’s Dyke National Trail.

Offa’s Dyke Circular
SATURDAY 2nd OCTOBER
Start: 15.30 – 4 miles

A ramble through lovely parkland followed by tranquil farmland paths and a section adjacent to Offa’s Dyke. The going is flat but you are surrounded by hills.

Rolling Hills
SUNDAY 3rd OCTOBER
Start: 10.00 12 miles

Discover the rolling hills to the west of Montgomery with superb views to hills across the breadth of Wales. The walk uses some newly opened stretches of paths and passes near to a vineyard at an altitude of nearly 300 metres. There are quite a lot of ‘ups and downs’ but nothing too difficult.

Staying in the Vale

Experience the lovely views of hills all round whilst walking mostly on the flat through the Vale of Montgomery. The only thing that disturbs the tranquillity is the wildlife!

Heritage Walk

Visit the Iron Age fort plus Montgomeryshire War Memorial high on Town hill with spectacular views and the fascinating ambiance of Montgomery. The leader will keep you entertained with stories about them all. Some uphill walking.

We are hoping to hold two, socially distanced outdoor events – our own ‘Oktoberfest’ and a ‘PIZZA at the Pool’. Watch out for details in your information pack we’ll send to you in September.
Montgomery’s own version of the famous ‘Oktoberfest’ with drinks and food available. NO BOOKING REQUIRED
Saturday evening: PIZZA at the POOL with Nomadic Appetite’s delicious woodfired pizzas, soup, deserts and wine at Whitegates Pool from 1730. Monty Folk should be on hand as usual for some lively musical entertainment. A pay as you eat event with entry by free ticket ONLY Please tick the booking form below if you would like to join us for a merry supper to round off your walk. Numbers will be limited.
